The Enochian language

What is Enochian?
Enochian is the name commonly given to a body of words, texts and letter forms recorded by John Dee and Edward Kelley in the late sixteenth century. They presented the material as communication from angels.
Why translation is difficult
The surviving vocabulary is much smaller than that of a modern living language. Many contemporary ideas have no attested equivalent, and historical spellings or grammatical interpretations can vary.
Angel language and angelic language

History and records
The language is preserved in manuscript records associated with John Dee and Edward Kelley. Those records include isolated vocabulary, letter tables, names, and longer passages commonly called the Calls or Keys. Modern spellings usually use Latin letters, while alphabet charts show a separate set of Enochian forms.
The surviving corpus
The corpus is finite and uneven. Some words occur clearly and repeatedly; others appear only once, have disputed readings, or are preserved with editorial notes. This website therefore stores status and review information beside each dictionary entry instead of treating every item as equally certain.
Grammar and sentence structure
Enochian is not simply English written with different symbols. The historical passages show recurring particles, pronouns, possessive forms and verbal patterns. A responsible translator must distinguish attested phrases from newly reconstructed sentences. The tool uses phrase rules where evidence or conventional usage exists and otherwise falls back to literal word matching.
Translating modern ideas
Words for modern technology, places, personal names and everyday concepts often have no documented equivalent. Transliteration is useful in those cases, but it preserves spelling rather than meaning. Results are labeled so readers can see which method was used.
